Abstract

This Special Issue brings together fourteen research papers exploring recent advances in sustainable and resilient civil engineering. The contributions address key challenges related to resource efficiency, circular economy principles, structural and infrastructure resilience, and the integration of digital technologies into engineering practice.

The papers investigate innovative construction materials, including recycled concrete, alternative reinforcement, and alkali-activated cementitious materials, alongside structural safety, seismic performance, and infrastructure resilience. Other contributions explore machine learning, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and simulation-based optimisation as tools for improving engineering analysis and decision-making.

The Special Issue also considers broader sustainability challenges, including architectural heritage preservation, stakeholder participation, and environmental infrastructure. Collectively, these studies highlight the importance of multidisciplinary approaches that integrate material innovation, structural reliability, digital transformation, and environmental and societal considerations in developing a more sustainable and resilient built environment.
